Katarzyna Budnik

She graduated from The Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where she studied violin with Mirosław Ławrynowicz, Andrzej Gębski and Janusz Wawrowski, as well as viola with Piotr Reichert. Hold- er of scholarships from the ‘Young Poland’ programme and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage; winner of the National Jan Rakowski Viola Competition and international competitions: ARD in Munich, Ludwig van Beethoven in Hradec Králové, Johannes Brahms in Pörtschach, Max Rostal in Berlin, the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Sondershausen, and the Michał Spisak International Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Budnik has given performances in Poland and throughout Europe, among others with the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Münchener Kammerorchester, the Potsdamer Kammerakademie, the Orchestras of Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic and of the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic. She collaborated with Gidon Kremer, Tatiana Grindenko, Yuri Bashmet and Frans Helmerson on the project ‘Chamber Music Connects the World’ implemented by Kronberg Academy (2010). She has also taken part in the Music Festival in Łańcut and ‘Music on the Heights’ in Zakopane, the Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus, and the BBC Proms.

Her CD Viola Recital won the Fryderyk Award of the Polish Phonographic Society for 2014.

Katarzyna Budnik is the viola section leader in the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra.
