Tomasz Strahl

He graduated from Kazimierz Michalik’s class at Warsaw’s Fryderyk Chopin Academy (now – University) of Music. An Austrian government scholarship made it possible for him to complete postgraduate studies with Tobias Kühne in Vienna. He also attended courses taught by Miloš Sádlo, Daniel Szafran, and Roman Jabłoński.

Prize winner in the Nationwide Dezyderiusz Danczowski Cello Competition in Poznań and the Nicanor Zabaleta Music Competition in San Sebastian.

The artist has toured extensively in Japan, Canada, and Spain. He appeared in such venues as the Berlin Schauspielhaus, the Linz Brucknersaal, St John’s Smith Square in London, Art Center in Tel Aviv, Auditori in Barcelona, as well as at festivals in Guadix and Caracas, the Warsaw Autumn, and Music in Old Cracow. He performs with Krzysztof Jakowicz, Wilanów Quartet, the Silesian Quartet, and Krzysztof Jabłoński (with whom he has formed Chopin Duo).

He has recorded for Polish Radio and TVP Polish state television, CBC Radio, as well as such record labels as Pony Canyon, CD Accord, Acte Préalable, Sony, and others.

In 2003 he won the Award of the Polish Phonographic Society.

Strahl teaches a cello class in his alma mater. He has conducted master classes in Poland, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Japan, and South America.

In 2001 the Polish President granted him the state title of professor. His accolades include: The Gold Cross of Merit, The Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis, and the Cavalier’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2010).
