PIOTR PŁAWNER

Violinist and conductor; winner of the 10th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. He graduated with honours from the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy (now University) of Music in Łódź. He also studied at the Hochschule der Künste Bern (Switzerland), winning that school’s Eduard-Tschumi-Preis. Apart from his triumph in the Wieniawski Competition, he also won the prestigious Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD in Munich (1995) as well as the international competitions in Bayreuth and Monte Carlo. Pławner has given performances on four continents as a soloist and chamber musician. His vast repertoire ranges from the Baroque to contemporary music. He is the first violinist in the I Salonisti quintet. He has played for such personages as Helmut Kohl, Rita Süssmuth, Ruth Dreifuss, and Rainier III Grimaldi, Prince of Monaco. His collaborations and appearances include eminent conductors, renowned orchestras, and major festivals. Artistic director of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra since 2020, Pławner is also the head of Capella Bydgostiensis (since 2022). Both his live performances and albums have been highly critically acclaimed in the international music scene. His releases have won three Fryderyk Awards. His most recent nomination is Emil Młynarski: Violin Concertos (with the Arthur Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic under Paweł Przytocki). Pławner’s accolades include the ‘Gloria Artis’ Medals for Merit to Culture (bronze in 2015, silver in 2021).
