Musical themes from Coppola’s legendary movie, as deconstructed and reinterpreted by this wayward duo, will be performed at a live concert accompanied by the
premiere of THEMES OF DRACULA from ANAKLASIS on vinyl records. The Dracula movie themes, though distinctive, sound differently in every version, each radically taking up and reinterpreting the original. Orzechowski and Więcek’s approach to Kilar’s music is one of respect but not one of worship, and the original concepts are far from sacrosanct. They soon construct their own soundspace, which, though derived from the original soundtrack, is nevertheless their autonomous creation. The tandem of musicians thus reworks, transforms, and comments on the individual motifs, some of them prearranged, others – unfolding in the course of free improvisation.

The ANAKLASIS album THEMES OF DRACULA comes out in the REVISIONS series, characterised by experimentation, revolutions, and boundary crossing. The series presents the work of composers from different musical worlds, including electronic and improvised music. Stylistic crossovers, overcoming differences and distinctions are elements that both musicians find perfectly congenial. After all, Piotr Orzechowski is called ‘Pianohooligan’ for a reason. His nick reflects the satisfaction with which he demolishes boundaries between the old and the new, between classical and jazz music. Kuba Więcek, on the other hand, one of the most versatile jazz musicians of his generation, loves to place his music in new contexts, face new challenges, and discover new types of sound. THEMES OF DRACULA is a daring display of both musicians’ artistic assets.
The LP version goes on sale on the day of Wojciech Kilar’s birth anniversary, 17 July. Pianist, improviser and composer Piotr Orzechowski, one of Poland’s most exciting musicians, is joined on this album by saxophonist, composer and music producer, multiple award winner Kuba Więcek (Fryderyk, Onet Olśnienia, PR 3 ‘Mateusz’ awards).
