BARTŁOMIEJ DUŚ

Saxophonist Bartłomiej Duś graduated from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where he had studied with Bernard Steuer, and where he currently teaches a saxophone class. He is also a graduate from Claude Delangle’s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris and Vincent David’s class at the C.R.R de Versailles. He obtained a D.M.A. degree in 2019.

His accolades include the 1st prize and Gold Medal in the Michał Spisak Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza (2009), the 1st prize in the hülsta woodwinds in Münster (2011), the 2nd prize in the Nova Gorica International Saxophone Competition (2011), the 3rd prize and audience award in the Internationaler Aeolus Bläserwettbewerb in Düsseldorf (2012), as well as the Grand Prix and Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award in the Poznań Concert of the Year 2012. He received scholarships from the Minister of Culture, the French government, and the ‘Young Poland’ programme.

As a soloist he performed, among others, with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) in Katowice, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, the Silesian Philharmonic, Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej (New Music Orchestra), the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, and the Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra. He has collaborated with numerous Polish composers, such as Marcel Chyrzyński, Maciej Jabłoński, Aleksander Nowak, and Tomasz Jakub Opałka, who wrote their saxophone concertos for him. In 2017 he transcribed Krzysztof Penderecki’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra for soprano saxophone, and in 2019 he made the world premiere recording of this version (released on CD under the DUX label).
