E-MEX Ensemble

The internationally renowned E-MEX Ensemble, founded in 1999, aims to discover the wealth of contemporary music. One of its main objectives is to commission and premiere new works as well as collaborating closely with composers in order to reveal each composition’s full artistic spectrum. E-MEX also performs many classic masterpieces from the 1st half of the 20th century. The ensemble has recorded CDs for such radio broadcasters as SWR, WDR, and DLF.

It regularly gives concerts in Europe, the United States, South America, and Asia. It has collaborated on their new music with such eminent composers as Elliott Carter, Iannis Xenakis, Franco Donatoni, Gérard Grisey, Toshio Hosokawa, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Helmut Lachenmann. Recent projects include collaborations with Chen Yi, Cort Lippe, José María Sánchez-Verdú, and Zygmunt Krauze.

Among the forthcoming events, there are concert tours of China, Taiwan, France, and Poland, as well as three new releases: albums dedicated exclusively to the music of Younghi Pagh-Paan and Xiaoyong Chen, and a compilation of works by composers from the Chinese city of Nanjing. The ensemble engages in numerous projects and concert series, inviting artists from various fields (jazz musicians, dancers, and actors) to participate. By fusing different styles, it encourages people to go beyond the traditional concert formula, reaches out to new audiences and groups of art enthusiasts.
