Leszek Lorent

He graduated with honours from Stanisław Skoczyński’s class at Warsaw’s Chopin University of Music. He also attended Jean Geoffroy’s master class at the Conservatoire de Lyon. In 2006–2009 he participated in Tallinn courses of new music interpretation. He won the 1st prize in the Nationwide Percussion Competition in Wrocław (2003) and (with Maciej Nerkowski as Scontri Duo) – the 2nd prize in the International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Kraków (2010).
As a soloist, Lorent has appeared with the Jeunesses Musicales, Orchestre Perpignan Méditerranée, Polish Radio Orchestra, orchestras of Teatr Wielki – the Polish National Opera, Świętokrzyska Philharmonic and Gorzów Philharmonic, the NFM Orchestra and the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. He has performed at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad, including Aujourd’hui Musiques in Perpignan, Flâneries Musicales in Reims, and Novelum in Toulouse.
He specialises in multi-percussion pieces and instrumental theatre. He has premiered works by Marcin Błażewicz, Dariusz Przybylski, Paweł Hendrich, and others. Lorent’s publications include books (in Polish: Percussion Sketches, Ineffabilis. Works for Percussion by Marcin Błażewicz, The Architecture of 20th-Century Music: Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis), as well as research papers in, among others, “Zagadnienia Naukoznawstwa PAN”. He has recorded three solo albums (Eidos, Kundalini, Tonisteon) and more than a dozen with chamber ensembles.
Lorent is an academic teacher at his alma mater (DMA degree in 2012, postdoctoral degree in 2016).
