LINUS ROTH

An Anne-Sophie Mutter scholarship holder, Roth studied violin with Nicolas Chumachenco at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, Zakhar Bron in Lübeck, Ana Chumachenco in Zurich and Munich.

He has appeared with, among others, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, SWR Symphonieorchester, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orchestra della Toscana, orchestras of Staatsoper Stuttgart and Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, as well as Bruckner Orchester Linz.

A keen chamber musician, he has played with Nicolas Altstaedt, Gautier Capuçon, Kim Kashkashian, Albrecht Mayer, Danjulo Ishizaka, and others. For several years he has performed in a duo with pianist José Gallardo, with whom he has recorded a number of albums.

The music of Moysey Weinberg occupies a special place in Roth’s repertoire. He has recorded and released all of Weinberg’s violin works (Challenge Classics). His CDs of this composer’s Violin Concerto (with Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin) and Concertino (with the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn) won Gramophone magazine’s Editor’s Choice. In 2015 Roth set up the International Weinberg Society. He also curated the composer’s birth centenary celebrations at London’s Wigmore Hall (2019).

Roth’s numerous accolades include two ECHO Klassik prizes.

He teaches a violin class at Augsburg’s Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum and is the artistic director of that city’s International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart, the Ibiza Concerts (which he founded himself), and the Schwäbischer Frühling in Ochsenhausen.
