Klaudiusz Baran
He studies with Jerzy Jurek at Warsaw’s Fryderyk Chopin Academy (now – University) of Music and on a French government scholarship with Max Bonnay in Paris. Since 2016 he has held the post of vice-chancellor of his alma mater.
He has won numerous top prizes in accordion competitions, including those held in Katowice (1993), Castelfidardo (1997), and Paris (1997). He now frequently serves on the juries of competitions in Poland and abroad. His festival appearances include the Warsaw Autumn, the Musica Polonica Nova in Wrocław, the Cross Culture Festival in Warsaw, EXPO 2008 in Zaragoza, and the Tango Festival y Mundial de Baile in Buenos Aires.
He performs solo, in ensembles (including some that he has founded himself: DesOrient, Machina del Tango, and Tangata Quintet), as well as with top Polish and foreign orchestras, such as the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the PNRSO, the ‘Amadeus’ Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, AUKSO, Dresdner Philharmonie, and Jenaer Philharmonie.
His CD of music by Astor Piazzolla, released by Sony Classical, won the Fryderyk Award of the Polish Phonographic Society for the Best Chamber Music Album (2003). In 2010 he was decorated with the Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
