Gemma Rosefield
She studied with David Strange at the Royal Academy of Music and with Ralph Kirshbaum at the Royal Northern College of Music. She has also attended master classes with Johannes Goritzki, Gary Hoffman, Bernard Greenhouse, Zara Nelsova, Yo-Yo Ma, Frans Helmerson, and Steven Isserlis.
Winner of the Pierre Fournier Award, Prix de l’Académie Maurice Ravel, the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY), and the Royal Over-Seas League String Competition. She has performed in the UK and other European countries, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Kenya, and New Zealand, at numerous festivals, such as the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, and Presteigne Festival (where she gave the British premiere of Maciej Zieliński’s Concello in 2014).
A keen performer of contemporary music, she has had works dedicated to her by David Matthews, Cecilia McDowall, James Francis Brown, Julian Dawes, and others. She recorded Ch.V. Stanford’s complete works for cello and orchestra with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Andrew Manze (Hyperion). She has played chamber music with György Pauk, Menahem Pressler, Julius Drake, Stephen Kovacevich, Morgan Szymanski, Ensemble 360, and Carducci String Quartet. With Benjamin Nabbaro and Tim Horton she performs as Leonore Piano Trio. Together they recorded a CD of music by Anton Arensky.
