Dorota Miśkiewicz

Singer, violinist, composer, and text writer, one of Poland’s most popular music personalities. Born into a family with musical traditions, she graduated from the violin class at the Chopin Music Academy (now — University) in Warsaw. It is voice, however, that has become her main means of artistic expression. She was ‘Jazz Forum’’s best singer of 2019.

Extremely versatile and talented, she has collaborated over the years with many eminent and internationally renowned music personalities, recording with Stefano Bollani, and performing with Nigel Kennedy, David Murray, Louis Winsberg, Kepa Junkera, Tomasz Stańko, Jan ‘Ptaszyn’Wróblewski, and Grzegorz Turnau. For many years she has contributed to projects presented by Polish jazz legend Włodzimierz Nahorny.

The singer boldly exceeds the boundaries of jazz, experimenting with African (Cesária Évora), Balkan, and Brazilian (CD Caminho with Brazilian drummer Guello) music, as well as contributing to free jazz, classical and classical contemporary music records. With Kwadrofonik ensemble she prepared a concert programme and the album Lutosławski, Tuwim. Songs Not Only for Children. She was the initiator of the project PIANO.PL, bringing leading Polish jazz pianists together on one stage with Atom String Quartet. The autumn of 2020 sees the premiere of her most recent release, recorded with Latin jazz icon, outstanding guitarist Toninho Horta, bassist Michael Pipoquinha, and drummer Armando Marçal.
