Małgorzata Walentynowicz

Pianist focusing on new music; an excellent interpreter of instrumental music and transmedia works as well as compositions with elements of music theatre and performance art. Graduate of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk and the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hanover, she also obtained an honours degree from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, where she studied contemporary music interpretation. She currently holds a professor position at her alma mater in Gdańsk. The pianist performs at renowned festivals and venues worldwide both solo and in such chamber ensembles as Cologne’s Ensemble Garage and the New European Ensemble, based in the Hague. As a soloist, Walentynowicz has collaborated with Warsaw Philharmonic, the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Warsaw, Jerzy Semkow Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, Ensemble OMN, Illinois Modern Ensemble, and Ensemble Neofonia. She has recorded extensively for such labels as Wergo, DUX, Kairos, Genuin Classics, and Bôłt Records. For her interpretations of contemporary music, she has received numerous awards, including at the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, the 1st Prize at the Gaudeamus Interpreters’ Competition in Amsterdam, the 1st Prize at the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music Competition in Buffalo (New York), and was nominated for the Classical:NEXT Innovation Award in Rotterdam.
