Jakob Kullberg

Danish cellist, highly regarded for his interpretations of contemporary repertoire, in particular – cello concertos and solo works. He studied in Amsterdam, London, Zagreb, Vienna, Copenhagen, and elsewhere, with such musicians as Harro Ruijsenaars, Dmitri Ferschtman, Valter Dešpalj, Mats Lidström, Morten Zeuthen, and Anner Bylsma. Kullberg has performed with the major orchestras of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, as well as renowned orchestras from other countries: London’s Royal Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, Sinfonia Varsovia, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, and Tallinna Kammerorkester. He has appeared, among others, at the Aldeburgh Festival, Festspillene i Bergen, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and the ‘Warsaw Autumn’ International Festival of Contemporary Music. Kullberg has built a special collaboration with Per Nørgård. In the last twenty years or more, he has been the dedicatee of all of this artist’s cello works. The cellist has also worked closely with such composers as Kaija Saariaho, Bent Sørensen, and Niels Rønsholdt. A lecturer at London’s Royal College of Music since 2016, Kullberg has also collaborated with the Royal Academy of Music, as well as readily sharing his knowledge and skills with other musicians during masterclasses held in Europe, the United States, and China. His recordings have received two ‘Danish Grammy’ awards of Danish Radio’s classical music channel P2. In 2021, Kullberg was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize.
