Adam Bałdych

Jazz violinist and composer. Already in his teens, he attracted attention with the extraordinary potential of his musical talent. Having graduated with an honours degree from Henryk Gembalski’s class at the Katowice Academy of Music, he obtained a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music.

He has played with such leading representatives of the jazz, classical and popular music scenes as Jim Beard, Lars Danielsson, Nils Landgren, Billy Cobham, Iiro Rantala, Urszula Dudziak, Grażyna Auguścik, Leszek Możdżer, Marius Neset, Verneri Pohjola, Jacob Karlzon, Joachim Kühn, Agata Zubel, Cezary Duchnowski, Paweł Hendrich, Andrzej Bauer, Mika Urbaniak, and others.

Bałdych has given performances throughout Europe, in South Korea, China, Japan, the United States, Canada, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia, as well as at such prestigious festivals as Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Jazz Jamboree, Jazz on the Odra, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, and Jazz Baltica. He is internationally critically acclaimed for the freshness of approach and virtuosic technique tinged with emotional intensity.

The eight albums released under his name include: Imaginary Room (with The Baltic Gang; ECHO JAZZ 2013 German music industry award); The New Tradition (with Yaron Herman); Brothers (with Helge Lien Trio); Sacrum Profanum (with Krzysztof Dys, Michał Barański, and Dawid Fortuna);  Clouds (with Vincent Courtois and Rogier Telderman) and the latest, released in 2021 – Poetry – recorded with the Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu. Since 2012 he has recorded for the well-known German label ACT Music.

Adam Bałdych has also written classical compositionscommisioned by Baltic Neopolis Orchestra, Ensemble OMN, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Kammerorchester, PWM Edition.

His accolades include: the Grand Prix of Jazz on the Odra festival, BWM Welt Jazz Award, the Gold Cross of Merit (Polish state decoration), and the Decoration of Honour ‘Meritorious for Polish Culture’ as well as the Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
