Adam Sztaba

Composer, pianist, arranger and conductor Adam Sztaba graduated from Zbigniew Rudziński’s composition class at Warsaw’s Chopin Academy (now – University) of Music. He made his debut as a composer in the musical Fatamorgana? staged at the Dramatyczny Theatre in Koszalin (1993). In the following year he collaborated with Warsaw’s Studio Buffo Theatre; for a year he was the leader of Maryla Rodowicz’s, and later for several years – of Edyta Górniak’s band.
Sztaba is known from such TV programmes as Idol (2002–2003), Dancing with the Stars (2005–2006, for which he founded the Adam Sztaba Orchestra), as well as from the Sopot Festival. In 2011–2016 he served on the jury of Must Be the Music. Tylko muzyka Polish talent show. In 2014 he was the MC at the TV concert Grzegorz Ciechowski – Meet the Legend, whose programme consisted of Sztaba’s own arrangements of Ciechowski’s compositions.
Sztaba performed with Michael Bolton (for Polsat TV’s 15th anniversary, 2007) and with Sting (during the Polish Radio’s 85th Anniversary Concert in Warsaw, 2010). In 2011 he was the music director of the concert Here, Warsaw, inaugurating Poland’s Presidency of the European Union Council and featuring Chris Botti, Dolores O’Riordan, Michael Bolton, and other stars. Sztaba also appeared at the 2012 Solidarity of Arts Festival with Quincy Jones and NDR Big Band, conducted WDR Big Band during the 2015 Solidarity of Arts concert entitled Swing+, and the 2017 concert of Terence Blanchard Quintet and Szczecin Philharmonic.
Sztaba composed the music for the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics European Summer Games Warsaw 2010, and was one of the music directors of the World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow. Since 2020 he has been the music director of Warsaw’s Dramatyczny Theatre production Man of La Mancha.
His output of compositions includes, among others, Leopoldinum and Riffenuto for orchestra, as well as the soundtrack for the film Od pełni do pełni [From One Full Moon to Another]. In 2003 he co-authored (with Tomasz Filipczak) the music for dance spectacle Opentaniec.
