Dariusz Przybylski
Composer and organist, Przybylski graduated with honours and a ‘magna cum laude’ distinction from Marcin Błażewicz’s composition class and Andrzej Chorosiński’s organ class at Warsaw’s Chopin University of Music (2008). He also studied at music academies in Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, and Karlsruhe (obtaining a postgraduate honours diploma in composition from Wolfgang Rihm’s class).
Winner of many national and international competitions for composers and organists, Przybylski has received scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (several times), the National Centre for Culture Poland, DAAD, Deutsche Bank Stiftung, the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, and Kunststiftung NRW. He was a composer-in-residence to Phonix16 vocal ensemble (2012/2013) and Gorzów Philharmonic (2015/2016).
Przybylski’s output includes chamber and symphonic music, solo concertos, and operas. He frequently draws inspiration from literature, painting, and various cultures’ mythologies. His works have been commissioned by Deutsche Oper Berlin, Ensemble Modern, Warsaw Chamber Opera, the Ludwig van Beethoven Association, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the National Forum of Music, and Poznań Philharmonic.
Combining the roles of composer and performer, Przybylski gives organ concerts at home and abroad. Contemporary music, including numerous world premieres, takes pride of place in his repertoire. His album Already It Is Dusk, recorded on a Hammond organ, won a Fryderyk Award in 2018.
A composition teacher at Warsaw’s Chopin University of Music since 2008, Przybylski has also been a guest lecturer in New York, Hamburg, Rome, Istanbul, and Minsk. In 2010/2011 he taught a composition class at Keimyung University in Daegu (South Korea). He obtained his postdoctoral degree in 2010.
