Bester Quartet

Founded on Jarosław Bester’s initiative in 1997 as The Cracow Klezmer Band, it consists of four eminent instrumentalists with classical and jazz education, playing a stylistically highly varied repertoire which assimilates elements of classical, jazz, avant-garde, and contemporary chamber music. Improvisation plays a major role in their work as a form-building element and the band’s musical axis.

The quartet’s innovative and original style, presented both in their own compositions and specially arranged works, continues to win them worldwide critical and public acclaim. They have recorded for radio and TV broadcasters at home and elsewhere, as well as releasing 9 albums under John Zorn’s prestigious NY Tzadik label — the fruit of many years of collaboration.

The band has played and recorded with a great number of artists representing the broadly conceived jazz, klezmer and avant-garde music, including: John Zorn, Tomasz Stańko, Grażyna Auguścik, John McLean, Don Byron, Frank London, Marek Moś and AUKSO — Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Jorgos Skolias, Aaron Alexander, and Ireneusz Socha. They have appeared in prestigious venues in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and the Middle East.
