Musikfabrik Ensemble
Ever since its formation in 1990, Ensemble Musikfabrik has enjoyed the reputation of one of the leading ensembles specialising in most recent contemporary music. For many years it has performed sophisticated and innovative music, frequently composed on the initiative of Musikfabrik as the ensemble’s commissions. Its members are excellents soloists, and their performances are usually prepared in close collaboration with the composers. Every year Musikfabrik gives about 80 concerts in Germany and abroad during major European music festivals and their own series entitled ‘Musikfabrik in WDR’. Its concerts have been released on numerous CDs, of which the ensemble has several dozen in its discography.
Musikfabrik has so far collaborated with such excellent composers as Mark Andre, Louis Andriessen, Stefan Asbury, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Unsuk Chin, Péter Eötvös, Brian Ferneyhough, Heiner Goebbels, Toshio Hosokawa, Michael Jarrell, Mauricio Kagel, Helmut Lachenmann, David Lang, Liza Lim, Benedict Mason, Carlus Padrissa (La Fura dels Baus), Emilio Pomàrico, Enno Poppe, Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Rundel, Rebecca Saunders, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Mouse on Mars electronic music duo. Since 2013 Musikfabrik has boasted a complete replica of Harry Partch’s set of instruments, as well as a set of unique double-bell brass instruments. The ensemble receives financial support from the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the cycle ‘Musikfabrik in WDR’ is co-financed by the Land’s Kunststiftung (Arts Foundation).
