Performers

Krzysztof Dys

Considered as one of the most original Polish jazz pianists, he also performs classical music and contributes to experimental bands.
This graduate of the Poznań Academy of Music has won numerous prizes for both classical music (incl. the 3rd prize in the Paris Conservatoire Russe Alexandre Scriabine’s international piano competition, 2007) and jazz performances (Warsaw Jazz Pianist Contest, 2006, 2nd prize).
Dys performs and records with the leading representatives of the Polish jazz and improvised music scenes. He plays in LAM trio with clarinettist Wacław Zimpel and drummer Hubert Zemler.
With Wacław Zimpel Quartet he recorded the well-received CD Stone Fog. With trumpeter Maciej Fortuna he plays in a duo (they released the acclaimed album Tropy / Traces and, under the DUX label, Maciejewski Variations) as well as in the Maciej Fortuna Quartet. Dys is also part of Soundcheck quartet (with Maciej ‘Kocin’ Kociński – sax, Andrzej Święs – bass, and Krzysztof Szmańda – drums). Together they have recorded several albums and appeared at prestigious festivals in Poland and abroad.
Another of Dys’s preoccupations is new Jewish music. He is the co-author, with singer Lena Piękniewska, of the project Lullabies for Eternal Dreaming. At Tzadik Poznań Festival, Dys presented his own original solo project dedicated to the music of Mordechai Gebirtig.
The pianist holds a D.M.A. degree and teaches a jazz piano class in his alma mater.
