Daniel Popiałkiewicz

Jazz-rock guitarist and composer; graduate of the Jazz and Popular Music Department at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, from which he obtained his doctoral degree in 2017 (in connection with his third album, Nada).
He has won prizes in numerous guitar competitions, including those held as part of the Guitar City, Jazz Juniors, Krokus Jazz, and Novum Jazz festivals.
His excellent technique and mastery of many styles makes him feel at ease in every musical genre. He has played for more than a decade with the Łona and Webber duo as well as Marcin Wyrostek. He
also performs with such artists as Jimek, Krzysztof Herdzin, Mietek Szcześniak, Kayah, Anna Jurksztowicz, Grażyna Auguścik, The Globetrotters, and Button Huckers.
He has performed with big bands, chamber and symphony orchestras. He is also a session musician. Albums recorded with his participation have frequently won the status of Gold or Platinum Records and have been nominated for the Fryderyk Awards.
Since 2008 Popiałkiewicz has also performed solo. His debut album The Hope For Tomorrow was hailed by ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’ daily as ‘one of the most interesting phenomena in young Polish jazz, impressing the ear with its incredible maturity’, while ‘Rzeczpospolita’ called it ‘the most recent discovery in the Polish jazz scene’. Jarosław Śmietana commented: ‘Popiałkiewicz proves with full ease and much grace that he belongs, beyond any doubt, to the narrow elite of Poland’s jazz guitarists.’
Daniel Popiałkiewicz plays the Root guitar and uses Thomastik-Infeld strings.
