Maciej Frąckiewicz
He studied with Klaudiusz Baran at Warsaw’s Chopin University of Music, Grzegorz Stopa at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Iñaki Alberdi at Barcelona’s Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, and Mie Miki at Essen’s Folkwang Universität der Künste. He is the winner of one of the world’s key accordion contests, Certamen Internacional de Acordeón ‘Arrasate Hiria’ (2012), as well as main prize winner in competitions in Poland, Germany, Slovakia, and Italy.
Frąckiewicz performs both early and contemporary music, at festivals in the countries of Europe and Asia.
He has premiered more than ninety new compositions by, among others, Krzysztof Penderecki, Zygmunt Krauze, Paweł Szymański, Cezary Duchnowski, Dariusz Przybylski, Wojciech Ziemowit Zych, and Jagoda Szmytka, many of which were inspired by this musician. His extensive discography includes the Fryderyk 2021-winning Penderecki. Concertos featuring the composer’s double concerto arranged for accordion by Frąckiewicz himself.
Since 2007 he has played with Magdalena Bojanowicz in TWOgether Duo, dedicated mainly to Polish contemporary music (awarded, among others, at the International Accordion Competition Klingen-thal 2008 and with the ‘Polityka’ weekly’s ‘Passport’ prize). He also works with other musicians, including as member of Warsaw Contemporary Ensemble.
Frąckiewicz teaches an accordion class at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, as well as conducting master classes in Europe and Asia.
