NFM WROCŁAW PHILHARMONIC
NFM Orchestra (formerly Wrocław Symphony, and Wrocław State Philharmonic in 1958–2014) is now part of the National Forum of Music, established in 2014 on the initiative of Andrzej Kosendiak. Witold Lutosławski has been the Orchestra’s patron since 1994.
The Orchestra’s directors have included Józef Karol Lasocki, Adam Kopyciński, Radomir Reszke, Andrzej Markowski, Tadeusz Strugała, Marek Pijarowski, Jacek Kaspszyk, and (since the 2017/2018 artistic season) – multiple Grammy winner Giancarlo Guerrero. The Orchestra has performed with and under such artists as Witold Rowicki, Jan Krenz, Witold Lutosławski, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Philippe Herreweghe, Paul McCreesh, Martha Argerich, Witold Małcużyński, Krystian Zimerman, Midori, Wanda Wiłkomirska, Elżbieta Chojnacka, David Oistrakh, and many other outstanding soloists and conductors, as well as avant-garde and jazz musicians.
The Orchestra focuses on 20th- and 21st-century music, particularly – works written by Polish composers. It has performed pieces by Chopin, Szymanowski, Lutosławski, and Penderecki during European and US concert tours with, among others, Garrick Ohlsson, Piotr Anderszewski, David Fray, Janusz Wawrowski, and Bomsori Kim. With the latter soloist, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic under Giancarlo Guerrero also recorded an album for Deutsche Grammophon (2021).
The Orchestra’s numerous music record prizes include the International Classical Music Award and Fryderyk Awards.
