Agata Schmidt
Mezzo-soprano, she graduated with honours from the class of Professor Hanna Michalak at the Bydgoszcz Academy of Music (2010). Winner of the 2nd prize in the International Voice Competition of the Bucharest National Opera House – Le Grand Prix de l’Opéra and the award for the best performance of Polish songs in the International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw (2016).
Her Opéra Garnier debut in the title role in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (dir. Pina Bausch) earned her two prestigious awards: Prix L’AROP and Prix Carpeaux for the best young singer of the year 2014. She returned to Palais Garnier as Orpheus in 2018. In France she also debuted as the Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos and Third Wood Nymph in Rusalka (Opéra Bastille), Orpheus in Orfeo ed Euridice (Opéra National de Bordeaux), Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia, Constanza in L’isola disabitata, in a stage version of Dvořák’s Stabat Mater (Opéra National de Montpellier), as well as Marta and Pantalis in Mefistofele (Opéra de Lyon). In 2016 she made her debut as Third Lady in The Magic Flute at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, where she also appeared in the following seasons as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly.
She performed chamber and large-scale vocal-instrumental repertoire at, among others, Palais Garnier, Auditorium Maison de la Radio, Warsaw Philharmonic, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Amphithéâtre de l’Opéra Bastille, Notre Dame de Paris, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and at European music festivals in Aix-en-Provence, Verbier, and Aldeburgh.
