MIACHAŁ SŁAWECKI

Countertenor, graduate of the Department of Vocal Studies of Warsaw’s Chopin University of Music (class of Artur Stefanowicz). While still a student, he made his debut in Johann Strauss II’s operetta The Revenge of the Bat at Szczecin’s Opera at the Castle. Well known and highly regarded for his interpretations of contemporary classical music, he has collaborated with such composers as Paweł Mykietyn, Bartosz Chajdecki, Maciej Zieliński, and Andrzej Zarycki.

He has appeared at philharmonic halls in Warsaw, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz (the Pomeranian Philharmonic) and Gdańsk (the Polish Baltic Philharmonic), the Silesian Opera in Bytom, the Polski Theatre in Warsaw, the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, and Malta’s Teatru Manoel. He has also given concert performances in Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, France, Germany, Greece, Austria, South Africa, Serbia, and Kazakhstan. Sławecki’s repertoire includes parts in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Handel’s Agrippina and Rinaldo, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. He also sang the title role in the world premiere of Karol Nepelski’s Birdy at London’s ‘Tête à Tête’ Festival of New Opera and the countertenor part in Kaija Saariaho’s opera Only the Sound Remains at Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan theatre. The latter production was presented at the Venice Biennale in 2021.
