HUBERT ZEMLER
He graduated in percussion from Edward Iwicki’s class at Warsaw’s Chopin Academy (now University) of Music. He has given performances in Europe, the United States, the Near East and Asia. He is the winner of a bronze medal of the Delphic Games of the Modern Era in South Korea (2009) in the category of solo percussion.
As a highly regarded performer of contemporary classical music, Zemler regularly performs works by, among others, Cornelius Cardew, Arturas Bumšteinas, Terry Riley, Zygmunt Krauze, Per Nørgård, Steve Reich, and Helmut Lachenmann. He is a member of Hashtag Ensemble and an excellent jazz drummer (Grand Prix of the 1999 Jazz on the Odra festival with Galaxy band, Grand Prix and individual prize of Jazz Juniors 2000 with Jan Smoczyński Trio). He has performed among others with Zbigniew Namysłowski, Wojciech Staroniewicz, Wojtek Mazolewski.
Zemler has given performances with artists representing the experimental, free jazz, ethnic, rock, and popular music scenes. He is part of LAM trio with Wacław Zimpel and Krzysztof Dys. As part of the SzaZaZe (Szamburski / Zakrocki / Zemler) trio he created, among others, music for experimental films by Franciszka and Stefan Themerson.
Zelmer is the composer of audiovisual works, a suite for one percussionist (Gostak and Doshes), music for feature films, shorts, and cartoons, as well as TV theatre spectacles. His discography includes appearance on several dozen albums with various ensembles and his original recordings.
