ANIA KARPOWICZ

Flutist, soloist and chamber musician. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź. Her accolades include the Polityka’s Passport Award for classical music, EMC Fellow in 2022–2024 (programme of the European Music Council), multiple scholarships from the City of Warsaw, as well as prizes in national and international music competitions. Several dozen composers have written their works specifically for her. She is also the founder of Hashtag Ensemble.

As the initiator of numerous socially involved music projects and outreach programmes for the local community, she has run, among others, the interdisciplinary TOVA project, played site-specific pieces in Warsaw’s urban space, and presented Rafał Zapała’s work/performance JUDGE ME AGAIN (rec. on the CD Futility under the Kairos label). She coruns the Hashtag Lab – Contemporary Music Space in Warsaw and curates the Lab’s programme as well as AżTak Festival. In 2017 she co-initiated (with pianist Marek Bracha) the WarszeMuzik festival, which presents chamber music in the tenement yards of the former Warsaw Ghetto. She was also a co-founder of the Mieczysław Wajnberg Institute (2020) and of oto foundation (with artists and music event organisers Alicja Kieruzalska, Marta Piórkowska, and Agata Krystek, 2023) aiming to establish and maintain international cooperation in the field of narrative programming of classical music.
