José Manuel Albán Juárez
Drummer, composer, and music producer, he graduated from the prestigious Post-Secondary Bednarska Jazz Studio in Warsaw. His career began in Latin American music bands. Joining Maanam in 2003, he played concerts with them and appeared on their last album Znaki szczególne (Distinguishing Marks). He performed with Poland’s major concert artists, appearing on their gold and platinum discs. He now plays with the hip-hop duo Łona and Webber, Radzimir ‘Jimek’ Dębski band, Marita Albán Juárez Quartet, and the SalsaCentral collective. He was also the leader of the ‘Musica negra y blanca’ project, bridging Peruvian and Polish traditions.
As a soloist, he has performed with the WDR Sinfonieorchester (Cologne), the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (Katowice), the Sinfonia Varsovia, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, Opole and Szczecin Philharmonic orchestras.
Juárez’s soundtracks include music for films by Tomasz Knittel (Universam Grochów, Złota, Beasts), Wiktoria Szymańska (Letters to A.) and Mateusz Biziorek (Woman of Marble). He has also composed music for product and social campaigns. As a volunteer he works with Kenya’s Ghetto Classics orchestra of Nairobi.
