CHILDREN’S CHOIR OF THE MIECZYSŁAW KARŁOWICZ 1st- AND 2nd-LEVEL MUSIC SCHOOLS IN KATOWICE
Consisting of students aged ten to sixteen, the vocal ensemble of the Mieczysław Karłowicz 1st- and 2nd-Level State Music Schools in Katowice under Joanna Marcinowicz has been part of the city’s music life for many years now, giving performances at the school (est. 1946) and elsewhere, and frequently sharing the stage with the region’s major musicians and ensembles.
The Choir has sung Hector Berlioz’s Te Deum and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana (with the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk), works by Benjamin Britten and Witold Lutosławski (with the Silesian Chamber Orchestra under Leszek Sojka). It appeared in the Silesian Philharmonic’s educational and therapeutic cycle ‘Musical House of Emotions’ (recording some of the performances) and at the NOSPR venue (for instance during a concert of Zbigniew Preisner’s carols and in the series ‘The Youth’s Wednesday’).
The Choir’s recent accolades include prizes in the Regional Contest of 1st-Level Music School Choirs in Zabrze and the Józef Świder Silesian Festival of 1stand 2nd-Level Music School Choirs in Katowice.
