Monika Kaźmierczak
Carillonneur, pianist, organist, and conductor, she graduated in music theory and choral conducting (MA) as well as church music (BA) from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. She also completed the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort. In 2012 she obtained a doctorate in carillon performance from the Gdańsk Academy of Music, where she is now an assistant professor teaching the carillon and theoretical subjects.
She began learning to play the carillon in 2000 during courses with Gert Oldenbeuving organised by the Historical Museum of the City of Gdańsk. In 2005 she participated in masterclasses taught in Belgium by Geert D’Hollander. She has played the Gdańsk carillons since 2001 and has formally served as the city’s carillonneur since 2018. She won prizes in international carillon competitions.
In 2011–2015 she was the president of the Polish Carillon Society, and in 2006–2017 – head of the Choir of Gdańsk Burghers. She has organised concerts, including several editions of the Gdańsk Music Days, Summer Carillon Concerts, and the Gdańsk Carillon Festival.
She has recorded two albums with Tubicinatores Gedanenses, as well as Contemporary Carillon featuring solo carillon pieces (Anaklasis, 2021). Her accolades include the ‘Splendor Gedanensis’ Cultural Award of the City of Gdańsk for 2020 and the Cultural Award of the President of Gdańsk, the Decoration of Honour ‘Meritorious for Polish Culture’, and the ‘Gloria Artis’ Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture.
