Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra
At its inaugural concert on 10 November 1947, the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by Stanisław Wisłocki, its first conductor. He was succeeded, in turn, by Jerzy Katlewicz, Robert Satanowski, Witold Krzemieński, Zdzisław Szostak, Renard Czajkowski, Wojciech Rajski, Wojciech Michniewski, Andrzej Boreyko, Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, José Maria Florêncio, Grzegorz Nowak and Marek Pijarowski. Since the 2021/2022 season, Łukasz Borowicz has served as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra.
The orchestra accompanied the contestants in the first post-war edition of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Since 1952, it has accompanied the finalists in the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań. It serves as the principal symphony orchestra of the Poznań Musical Spring festival and also appears at the Warsaw Autumn and the Wratislavia Cantans festivals.
The orchestra’s recorded legacy encompasses symphonic, operatic and ballet repertoire produced for radio and television, as well as albums released by labels including Sony Classical, cpo, Polmusic, Polskie Nagrania, Muza, Largo Records, DUX, CD Accord, and Naxos.
The Poznań Philharmonic’s concert hall is the Adam Mickiewicz University Hall in Poznań. Renowned throughout Europe for its superb acoustics and magnificent Neo-Renaissance architecture, it seats an audience of more than 1,000.
