Ewa Biegas

A soprano; graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (class of Jan Ballarin) and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (class of Helena Łazarska). She has won prizes in many nationwide and international vocal competitions. She has received scholarships from the Polish and Austrian governments as well as the Swiss Thyl-Dürr Foundation.

Biegas is a distinguished interpreter of music by Polish composers. For Polish Radio, she has recorded works by I.F. Dobrzyński (Monbar), F. Nowowiejski (Legend of the Baltic), E. Bogusławski (Canzoni d’amore), A. Dziadek (Stabat Mater), W. Lutosławski (Chantefleurs et chantefables, 20 Christmas Carols), and K. Szymanowski (Lottery for Husbands). She appeared in the american premiere of W. Kilar’s Missa pro pace at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York and toured in Germany with K. Penderecki’s St Luke Passion (cond. Antoni Wit). She has also given performances of H.M. Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 ‘Symphony of Sorrowful Songs’ during the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and K. Penderecki’s Symphony No. 8 ‘Lieder der Vergänglichkeit’ under the composer’s baton at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence.

The artist has sung at the main operas in the country, as well as in prestigious foreign concert halls. Apart from operas and other large-scale vocal-instrumental works, she also performs songs, particularly from the Slav cultures.

Ewa Biegas is the dean of the Vocal and Acting Department at her alma mater in Katowice.
