ARCHIPELAGO
Maciej Zieliński dedicates himself with equal enthusiasm to popular music (collaborations with Kayah and Ania Dąbrowska, among others), film soundtracks (such as Street Games and Humble Servants), and contemporary classical projects. In this latter sphere, not dependent on market demands and the expectations of producers, he can present the full palette of his ambitions and possibilities as a composer. The postmodern multiplicity of influences in his works is perfectly brought out by AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy under Marek Moś, which, like probably no other ensemble, has wide experience in bridging many different musical worlds. From Shining II, inspired by optical phenomena and entering into a dialogue with Krzysztof Penderecki’s music (used in the cult horror movie The Shining) to Accello Tanguero, which features the accordion and the cello as solo instruments, well suited to a travesty of the tango idiom – we can hear that Archipelago has been scored not merely for a string orchestra, but for live emotions as well.
1. Shining II for string orchestra (2006/2011)
2. Barocode I for violin, viola and string orchestra (2011)
3. Accello Tanguero for accordion, cello, percussion and string orchestra (2016)
4. Concello for cello and string orchestra (2013)
