GREAT ENCOUNTERS LP
GREAT ENCOUNTERS are excellent performances of outstanding works, but also meeting points between great composers and performers. Music by Fryderyk Chopin, Henryk Wieniawski, Stanisław Moniuszko, Karol Szymanowski, and Ignacy Jan Paderewski represents the musical idiom of Polishness to which successive generations of artists and music-lovers have always referred.
On GREAT ENCOUNTERS, the anniversary album marking the 75 years of PWM Edition’s presence in the market, works by the classics are taken care of by masters of Polish jazz and pop music, who both reinterpret the familiar and present what is new. The multitasking pianist Krzysztof Herdzin re-reads the works of Chopin and Paderewski. Adam Sztaba’s project ŁeMkONIUSZKO puts Moniuszko’s songs in a new original perspective, while the voice of Igor Herbut extends the Łemko context of Sztaba’s compositions. Saxophonist Adam Pierończyk sheds a new light on Szymanowski’s étude, whereas Adam Bałdych, joined by excellent pianist Krzysztof Dys and percussionist Marcel Comendant, enter into a dialogue with Wieniawski’s music. The whole is unified by the sound of AUKSO under Maestro Marek Moś – an orchestra which feels at home in such cross-genre experiments.
