DANUTA STENKA
A theatre, film, and radio actress, graduate of the Acting Studio at the Gdańsk Wybrzeże (Coastal) Theatre. She made her debut in 1984 at Szczecin’s Współczesny Theatre. Subsequently she was associated with Poznań’s Nowy as well as Warsaw’s Dramatyczny, Rozmaitości, and Narodowy theatres, from 1988 – also with the Polish Television Theatre.
Her accolades include the Stanisław Wyspiański Young Artists’ Award, 2nd Class, Award for Acting at the 2nd Premiere Festival in Bydgoszcz, the Wrocław Society of Friends of Theatre Award, the Irena Solska Award for outstanding achievements as an actress, as well as Polish Radio awards (the Grand Splendour and the Golden Microphone) for her brilliant roles, the ‘Polityka’ weekly’s ‘Passport’ Award for theatrical work, an award for the best actress at the 6th ‘Divine Comedy’ International Theatre Festival in Kraków, and the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Award for the best female role in Ibsen’s Lady from the Sea (dir. Robert Wilson) at Warsaw’s Dramatyczny Theatre.
Stenka’s best known film roles include those in Jerzy Antczak’s Chopin: Desire for Love, Andrzej Wajda’s Katyń, and Jacek Bromski’s Entanglement. Theartist is a five-time winner of the ‘Film’ monthly’s Golden Duck Award and twice winner of the ‘Eagles’ Polish Film Awards, including for her part as George Sand in Chopin: Desire for Love. In 2011 the artist was decorated with the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
