Mariusz Godlewski

Baritone Mariusz Godlewski, prize winner of Polish and international competitions, graduated from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. He made his debut as Pelleas in Claude Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera (2002). Ever since that time he has appeared on operatic and concert stages in Poland as well as Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and the United States, among others.

Apart from his operatic career, he is an ardent performer of songs by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms, as well as German and English Baroque music. In 2011 he took part in the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s cycle A Sea of Dreams Did Breathe on Me – Songs of Reflection and Nostalgia (at Warsaw Philharmonic). Two years later he appeared under that composer’s baton during the Beijing Music Festival.

Godlewski’s recordings include parts in Stanisław Moniuszko’s operas (Zbigniew in The Haunted Manor, Jakub in The Raftsman, Volsey in Beata, Janusz in Halka, and The Cupbearer in The Countess). With pianist Radosław Kurek, the singer recorded three albums of Moniuszko’s songs under the NIFC label (The Fryderyk Chopin Institute). For the second of these releases and his recording of The Countess, Godlewski earned the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award in 2022.
